  • First Call For MEM 2025

The Graduate Programs in Mathematics Education of the Universidad Antonio Nariño call for the XV Symposium on Mathematics and Mathematics Education, XIV International Congress in Computer-Aided Mathematics and V Symposium on Mathematics Competitions to be held from February 20 to February 22, 2025.

The three events will be held in parallel in a hybrid modality (in-person in Bogota with the possibility of virtual participation) and have as their main objective the presentation of research results in mathematics education, mathematics competitions or in the different fields of mathematics and its interdisciplinary relationship with computation and education.

The Symposium is structured in nine topic study groups (TSG), which address the main lines of research aimed at the coherent improvement of mathematics teaching and learning in school and higher education.

ü TSG 1. Learning through posing and solving problems.
ü TSG 2. The teaching and learning of geometry.
ü TSG 3. Mathematical thinking and the history of mathematics
ü TSG 4. Mathematics education at the tertiary level.
ü TSG 5. Mathematics and its applications.
ü TSG 6. The use of technologies in mathematics learning.
    ü TSG 7. Mathematics competitions.
    üTSG 8. Ethnomathematics.
üTSG 9. The teaching and learning of probability and statistics.

In TSG 1, 2, 3, 4 and 9, research is proposed that addresses the following topics:

    • Teaching and learning mathematics through problem solving.
    • Challenging problems at different educational levels.
    • Strategies for the development, enrichment and consolidation of algebraic, geometric, probabilistic, logical and advanced mathematical thinking and advances in its characterization.
    • Evaluation of the mathematical performance and the work of the students.
    • Attention to the diversity and inclusion in teaching and learning of mathematics.
    • Strategies for generating and consolidating more challenging curricula for all students.
    • Teaching and learning of mathematics (elemental and advanced) through applications.
    • History and epistemology of mathematics education.
    • History and philosophy of mathematics.
    • Interdisciplinary teaching and learning in mathematics.
    • Visualization and intuition in teaching and learning of mathematics.
    • Continuous training of academic staff in mathematics.
    • Other innovative themes

In TSG 5, research is proposed that addresses the following topics:

    • Discrete and computational mathematics.
    • Numerical analysis of theoretical and practical problems in mathematics.
    • Basic mathematics and its application to science.
    • Computational and numerical solution of ordinary and partial differential equations modelling science and economics phenomena.
    • Modelling and simulation of contextualized phenomena in the sciences and their applications.
    • Teaching and learning of mathematics education in universities.
    • Other innovative themes.

In TSG 6, research is proposed that addresses the following topics:

    • Competiciones matemáticas y estrategias de entrenamientos.
    • Use of educational software for solving problems in mathematics.
    • Experiences in the workplace with mathematical software.
    • Design, analysis and implementation of digital environments for mathematics education.
    • Other innovative themes

In TSG 7, research is proposed that addresses the following topics:

    • Mathematics competitions and training strategies.
    • Use of competition-like problems in the classroom
    • From mathematics olympiad problems to research problems.
    • Posing problems for mathematics competitions.
    • Impact of mathematics competitions (olympiads) in different countries and regions.
    • Team competitions in mathematics.
    • Other innovative themes

In TSG 8, research is proposed that addresses the following topics:

    • Ethnomathematics as classroom experience.
    • Ethnomathematics beyond school contexts.
    • Ethnomathematics and epistemology.
    • Ethnomathematics and visual thinking.

    • Other innovative themes
