FIRST CALL FOR MEM 2027

The Master's and Doctoral Programs in Mathematics Education at Universidad Antonio Nariño will host the 16th Symposium on Mathematics and Mathematics Education, the 15th International Congress on Computer-Assisted Mathematics, the 6th Symposium on Mathematical Competitions (MEM 2027), and the 2nd Mathematics Festival, from February 18 to 20, 2027.

The four events will take place in a hybrid format (in person with virtual attendance options). Their main objective is to present research findings in mathematics education, mathematical competitions, and various fields of mathematics, as well as their interdisciplinary connections with computing and education.

The Symposium is structured into nine Topic Study Groups (TSGs) that address the main lines of research aimed at the consistent improvement of mathematics teaching and learning in school and higher education.

ü TSG 1. Learning through posing and solving problems.
ü TSG 2. Teaching and learning of geometry.
ü TSG 3. Mathematical thinking and the history of mathematics.
ü TSG 4. Mathematics education at the tertiary level.
ü TSG 5. Mathematics and its applications.
ü TSG 6. Use of technologies in mathematics learning.
ü TSG 7. Mathematics competitions.
üTSG 8. Ethnomathematics.
üTSG 9. Teaching and learning of probability and statistics.

In TSGs 1, 2, 3, 4 and 9, research addressing the following topics is proposed:

• Teaching and learning mathematics through problem solving.
• Challenging problems across different educational levels.
• Strategies for developing, enriching, and consolidating algebraic, geometric, probabilistic, logical, and advanced mathematical thinking, as well as advances in its characterization.
• Assessment of student performance and mathematical work.
• Addressing diversity and inclusion in mathematics teaching and learning.
• Strategies for designing and consolidating more challenging curricula for all students.
• Teaching and learning mathematics (elementary and advanced) through applications.
• History and epistemology of mathematics education.
• History and philosophy of mathematics.
• Interdisciplinary mathematics teaching and learning.
• Visualization and intuition in mathematics teaching and learning.
• Continuing professional development for mathematics teachers and faculty.
• Other innovative topics.

In TSG 5, research addressing the following topics is proposed:

• Discrete and computational mathematics.
• Numerical analysis of theoretical and practical problems in mathematics.
• Basic mathematics and its applications to science.
• Computational and numerical solutions for ordinary and partial differential equations modeling scientific and economic phenomena.
• Modelling and simulation of contextualized phenomena in the sciences and their applications.
• Teaching and learning mathematics in higher education.
• Other innovative topics.

In TSG 6, research addressing the following topics is proposed:

• Uses of technology in mathematics teaching and learning across all educational levels.
• Use of educational software for mathematical problem solving.
• Professional and workplace experiences with mathematical software.
• Design, analysis, and implementation of digital environments for mathematics education.
• Other innovative topics.

In TSG 7, research addressing the following topics is proposed:

• Mathematics competitions and training strategies.
• Using competition-style problems in the classroom
• From mathematical Olympiad problems to research problems.
• Problem posing for mathematics competitions.
• Impact of mathematics competitions (Olympiads) across different countries and regions.
• Team mathematics competitions.
• Other innovative topics.

In TSG 8, research addressing the following topics is proposed:

• Ethnomathematics as a classroom experience.
• Ethnomathematics beyond the school context.
• Ethnomathematics and epistemology.
• Ethnomathematics and visual thinking.

• Other innovative topics.

Modes of participation:

ü Plenary, parallel, and keynote lectures
ü
Short courses.
ü
Short communications/Oral presentations

Submission format for communications:

Authors must submit an extended abstract (up to two pages, US Letter size) including the title, author(s), email address(es), institutional affiliation, problem statement, research objectives, methodology, main results, and references (in APA format).

The abstract must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx) set in Times New Roman, 12 pt, single-spaced, with 2.5 cm (1-inch) margins. Submissions are accepted in Spanish, English, or Portuguese. All accepted abstracts will be published in electronic format.
